Day 11 - Yokohama Chinatown 横浜中華街

It was around 2:30pm when we arrived at Chinatown.

As previously mentioned : Yokohama Chinatown is the largest Chinatown not only in Japan but also in Asia (larger than Chinatowns in both Kobe and Nagasaki) and it is one of the largest in the world. There are over 200 restaurants alone (other shops are not included in this number!)

Once we passed through the gate in the photograph above, we had to walk a little further before approaching the 'Goodwill Gate' then through this you were very much definitely in Chinatown :-

Wandering through Chinatown, was a very confusing experience... we were basically; . . .
in Japan, in a part of Japan which looked like China, with Japanese people dressed as Chinese people, selling Chinese products for Japanese money and serving Chinese food (Japanese style).

So I took some piccies of the narrow streets of Chinatown :-

We decided to have a wander into one of the larger shopping centres where Ian purchased an authentic Chinese calligraphy type piece of his name! - Ian, please edit and tell this story!!! :) While I got distracted by taking photos of a whole bunch of crazy lookin' cats!???. . . WOW those Chinese really love their cats!!

[TO BE POSTED (Iain) - video of the camp'est dancing cat EVER seen! - Hope you still have it!!!
